In real life, Rank is a level that you reach, usually based upon some level of skill/ability. Fame is how well you're known, although in game it's merely the name given to how many points you have in Rank. So, let's rename the current Fame to a more suitable name, Rank Points.

How well are you truly known in game? A person that battled a lot just after Beta, reached rank 5, walked away from the game for months then just came back last week is, currently, just as "Famous" as a person who just barely reached rank 5. But the new person is, arguably far better known and probably much more present in people's memories. So, let's reset Fame every year.

The /rank and /fame emotes would now actually be different (probably). A Rank 10, Fame 2 person in the end of the year would demonstrateable have once been uber in PvP but obviously has been away for quite some time, while a Rank 10 Fame 7 person in the end of the year has not only been uber but is theoretically fully current in all of the latest patches and changes to the game.

So, to sum up. Keep Rank the same as it is now. Give the same points for winning battles as it currently stands. But give everyone a new number that will reset back to 0 after each year so that we can truly see how Famous someone really is, so that we can truly see a person's Fame.

I agree with glenn, too many threads on the one topic is useless.

If you're too lazy to read what other people have been discussing about the topic then your suggestion just isn't worth anything.

Let's see, there's nothing about it in the list of suggestions. Searching for "Fame" or "Rank" in this forum doesn't appear to list any threads in which the OPs give an identical suggestion.

Perhaps, glenn rolfe and Clusmas, since it's so easy to find other threads in which the original poster already suggests this idea, you could helpfully provide links instead of sitting on your thumb complaining.

I have no idea what you're talking about Frost, I wasn't complaining that I couldn't get a good group. Did you even bother to read what I wrote?

Why is it a horrible idea, Azeroths Hammer? Please use constructive criticism instead of whining uselessly like those other posters.

bad idea, keep all the pvp the same, there isn't anything wrong with it just people are whinning that they can't get fame, we were all there once why should have it easier now that they're starting to get into tombs, eventhough it has always been there, they should just deal with there problem by themselve, you can join a guild, get friends to pvp with you, go to forums with team builds, there's more then plenty of ways to get your fame and rank up, people should just stop whining about it, and just let it be, the only people that make these posts are people who are just starting to get into pvp, just because they didnt want to before, they shouldn't be making it easier for them.

A person shouldn't be able to rest on their laurels.

Keep Rank just as it is so we can see the exalted levels that people have climbed to. But put in some way for us to see whether a person has been actively engaging in PvP over the last while or not.

Currently, Fame/Rank, it doesn't matter, they're the same thing. They should be different so that we can see both what a person has done and what they're now doing.

Your system wouldn't show any rank or fame, the only way to show fame is by making a single person ladder that shows how much fame they have, and rank indicated how much fame you have, and then you have a seperate rank for players in top 1000, that would only show in your Hero window, and possibly if your leader of the group and it'll show the rank of the leader if he's in the top 1000.
